  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition; stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with sour cream.
  6. Fold in chopped apples and nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
