  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and rub with a spice mix of smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Sauté sliced onions in oil until caramelized (15-20 minutes), then stir in minced garlic.
  3. Layer caramelized onions at the bottom of the slow cooker or Dutch oven, place brisket on top, and pour over the glaze made from brown sugar, soy sauce, beef broth, and apple cider vinegar.
  4. Cook on low for 8-10 hours in a slow cooker or bake at 300°F (150°C) for 3-4 hours until tender.
  5. Let the brisket rest for 20 minutes before shredding and mixing it back into the cooking liquid.
