- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup unsalted butter (frozen)

- 1 large egg (separated)
- ¾ cup finely chopped cooked chicken
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in chives and cheddar cheese.
- Grate the frozen butter into the dry mixture until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg yolk; add to dry ingredients along with chicken. Mix gently until combined.
- Transfer dough onto a floured surface; form into an eight-inch disc and cut into wedges or drop spoonfuls onto a baking sheet.
- Brush tops with remaining egg white mixed with buttermilk; optionally sprinkle with sea salt.
- Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes; then bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
