  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (frozen)
  • â…” cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (separated)
  • ¾ cup finely chopped cooked chicken

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in chives and cheddar cheese.
  4. Grate the frozen butter into the dry mixture until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg yolk; add to dry ingredients along with chicken. Mix gently until combined.
  6. Transfer dough onto a floured surface; form into an eight-inch disc and cut into wedges or drop spoonfuls onto a baking sheet.
  7. Brush tops with remaining egg white mixed with buttermilk; optionally sprinkle with sea salt.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes; then bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
