  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. Prepare the bottom crust in a 9-inch pie plate and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well combined.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared crust and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the top crust, place it over the filling, seal edges tightly, and cut slits for ventilation.
  6. Brush with an egg wash (or milk substitute) and sprinkle sugar on top.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
