Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Peel and core the Granny Smith apples; slice them thinly.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in flour to create a paste, then add sugars and water, bringing it to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Press one pastry into a pie pan and roll out the second pastry into strips for a lattice top.
  4. Arrange sliced apples in the bottom crust and lay lattice strips across the top.
  5. Pour the butter-sugar mixture over the lattice.
  6. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) for an additional 35-45 minutes until apples are tender.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
